Campaign Management

Create and manage D&D campaigns in the Scrollbook web app

Last updated: January 15, 2025

Campaigns are the core unit of organization in Scrollbook. Each campaign has its own setting, roster of players and characters, session history, and AI context.

Creating a Campaign

  1. Log in to scrollbook.app and go to the Dashboard
  2. Click New Campaign in the top right
  3. Fill in the details:
FieldDescription
NameYour campaign name (e.g., "Curse of Strahd")
DescriptionA short summary of the setting and tone
EraThe time period — affects available equipment, tone, and world flavor
Discord ServerThe guild this campaign is tied to
  1. Click Create Campaign

Cipher is automatically configured for your campaign's era and setting once it's created.

Campaign Settings

Access settings from the campaign page by clicking the gear icon.

General

  • Name & Description — Edit the campaign's title and summary at any time
  • Era — Change the time period (affects Cipher's narration style)
  • Status — Set to Active, Paused, or Archived

Players & Roles

  • Invite players — Share the invite link or send a Discord invite
  • Set DM — Assign or transfer DM privileges
  • Remove players — Remove a player and optionally their characters

Cipher Context

  • Campaign context — Custom instructions Cipher uses when narrating your sessions
  • House rules — Rules that differ from standard D&D 5e (Cipher will apply them)
  • Tone — Gritty realism vs. high fantasy vs. comedy — shapes how Cipher narrates

Managing Multiple Campaigns

Your available number of simultaneous campaigns depends on your subscription tier:

TierCampaigns
Free Adventurer1
Single Campaign1
Multi-CampaignUp to 5
Unlimited GuildUnlimited per server

To switch between campaigns, use the campaign selector dropdown at the top of the Dashboard.

Session History

Each campaign maintains a full session log:

  • Transcript — Every message exchanged during the session
  • Summary — AI-generated recap of key events, NPCs, and loot
  • Attendance — Which players and characters participated
  • AI hours used — How much of your monthly allowance the session consumed

Access session history from the campaign page under the Sessions tab.

Archiving & Deleting Campaigns

Archive a campaign when the story is complete but you want to keep the history:

  • Campaign becomes read-only
  • Session history and characters are preserved
  • Does not count against your active campaign limit

Delete a campaign only if you want to permanently remove all data:

  • This cannot be undone
  • All sessions, characters, and context are deleted

To archive or delete, go to Campaign Settings > General > scroll to the bottom.
